About the Owl

The logo of the Perception Enhancement Systems group is that of an owl, a creature considered throughout human history to be endowed with particularly acute, or perception enhanced, night vision. The logo has been developed from a red-figure Greek owl skyphos of circa 350 BC belonging to Dr. Giacomin. Owl skyphoi are commonly found on archaeological sites throughout the Hellenic world. The skyphos in question is of South Italian origin, most probably of Apulian manufacture.

For the ancient Greeks the owl was closely associated with Athena, the goddess of intellect, wisdom, invention and war. Mythology suggests that Athena was so impressed by the great eyes and solemn appearance of the little owl (athene noctua) that she honoured the night bird by making it her favourite among the feathered creatures. As a symbol of Athena, the owl acted as both a protector and an inspiration to people in their everyday lives.
